Humanoid robots: hype vs. what ships
How to read humanoid announcements without getting burned.
By The Pick Humanoid team · Oct 23, 2026
Humanoid robot videos are everywhere, and a polished demo says little about whether you can buy one. Here’s how to tell what’s real.
Ask three questions
- Is there an order page with a price? Unitree lists prices for the R1, G1 and H2 on its shop.[1] 1X lists NEO at $20,000 or $499 a month.[4] Most others don’t.
- Who is it sold to? Agility’s Digit and Boston Dynamics’ Atlas are sold to businesses through sales teams.[7][6]
- Has anyone received one? Unitree’s robots are shipping to labs and developers. For NEO, 1X says U.S. deliveries start in 2026, but as of October we found no confirmed customer deliveries.[5]
Teleoperation vs. autonomy
Many demo videos show robots controlled remotely by a person, or running carefully staged routines. That’s a legitimate way to develop robots and gather training data, but it isn’t the same as a robot doing your laundry on its own. Look for clear statements about what was autonomous.
The realistic picture for late 2026
- Want to build and experiment? You can buy a humanoid today.
- Want household help? You can join a pre-order queue.
- Want factory labor? Talk to vendors about pilots, and expect 2027 timelines for some.[6]
